Convergence Bio Forensic Institute (CBFI)

Research Objectives

Forensic science contributes to the realization of a safe society by solving various incidents and accidents and uncovering substantive truths. The Convergence Bio-Forensic Research Institute aims to achieve creative and practical results through convergence research integrating cutting-edge life sciences such as genomics and bioinformatics with diverse advanced technologies including nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.

Research Areas

  • Development of Advanced On-Site Integrated DNA Analysis Technology for Use at Crime Scenes

  • Development of a Biochip for Human Sample Verification Using Nano- and Microfluidic Technologies

  • Development of a Molecular Diagnostic Kit for Rapid Screening of Valid DNA Evidence

  • Characterization, validation, and contamination detection of raw cells for advanced biopharmaceuticals using STR profiling, Y-chromosome and mtDNA haplotyping, RT-PCR, and Digital PCR technologies

  • Acquisition of suspect identification information through microbiome genome analysis of the human body and environment

  • Epigenetic research for tissue origin determination, age estimation, and lifestyle estimation

  • Estimation of individual traits, biogeographic ancestry information, and extroversion traits through SNP analysis

  • Development of an Artificial Intelligence-Based Program for Analyzing Mixed DNA Profiles

  • Forensic Applications of Non-Human DNA Analysis: Animals, Insects, Plants, Microorganisms, etc.
