A Message from the Director

Providing a Collaborative Research Platform to Unite Bio-Field Researchers

The Biomedical Institute for Convergence at SKKU (BICS) was founded with a clear mission: to unite researchers from various bio-related fields across the university. By providing a dynamic platform for collaborative research, we aim to generate world-class achievements in Biomedical Imaging—an area of great strength and future potential for Sungkyunkwan University.

In particular, we are focused on developing innovative and foundational technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of intractable conditions such as cancer and brain disorders. We achieve this by integrating fundamental research in a wide range of biomedical sciences with state-of-the-art imaging techniques.

The launch of BICS not only marks a significant step in our own development but also lays the groundwork for the "Research Troika," a core component of the university's New Challenge Project. This establishes a crucial stepping stone in SKKU’s journey to becoming a globally leading university.

As the Director, I am personally committed to fostering collaborative research among our 58 participating faculty members and strengthening our close partnership with the IBS research groups. I will dedicate my utmost effort to expediting the acquisition of cutting-edge biomedical equipment and establishing a dedicated Laboratory Animal Center, ensuring that BICS rises to become a global landmark of success in the biomedical field.

Kim, Kyungkyu
